Eloping Across Europe in a 1997 Toyota Granvia!

We did it. We packed our lives into a 1997 Toyota Granvia, turned it into a cozy campervan, and drove off into the sunset—destination: Europe. Not for a vacation. Not even for a gap year. We were eloping.

Yes, really!

Our trusty Granvia—once a humble minivan from the ‘90s—has become our home on wheels and the beating heart of this wild, beautiful journey. From the moment we decided to ditch the conventional wedding and choose freedom instead, we knew it had to be something that felt real. Raw, imperfect, and full of soul.

We hope it inspires someone else to choose adventure over tradition, simplicity over spectacle, and love over logistics.

Why the Granvia?

Often overlooked, the Toyota Granvia is a hidden gem. Built on the HiAce platform, it has a forward-mounted engine for better safety—unlike older vans with engines under the cabin. European models typically packed trusted diesel engines—2.4L or 3.0L—perfect for powering across diverse landscapes.

The Granvia is compact (around 4.8 meters), yet tall enough to stand comfortably inside—ideal for off-grid living, easy parking, and feeling at home even among unfamiliar backdrops.

Got questions about the van? Thinking of doing your own camper conversion? Or just need a little push to take the leap you’ve been dreaming about? Drop a comment—we’d love to hear from you.
