Equipment

  • 1 Cookware dish

Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 3-4 Apples (600g)
  • 2 tbsp Caster Sugar (I use Golden)

Crumble Topping

  • 190 g Plain Flour
  • 120 g Caster Sugar (I use Golden)
  • 120 g Butter (chilled from fridge)

Optional Topping

  • 2 tbsp Oats
  • 2 tbbs Soft Brown Sugar

Instructions

  • Pre-heat your oven to 190C or gas 5. Choose a cookware dish you will assemble your crumble in
  • Slice your apples into thin strips and place them into a bowl (you can peel the apples if you wish but I enjoy the texture and colour with the skin on)
  • With your bowl of sliced apples, add 2 tbsp golden caster sugar and toss until evenly coated. Place into your cookware dish and flatten down with your hand to prevent crumble falling through
  • Put plain flour (190g) and golden caster sugar (120g) and small chunks of cold butter (120g) and rub it in with your fingertips until the mixture looks like large breadcrumbs
  • Pour the crumble mix over the apples and spread evenly. Gently press the surface with the back of a spoon so the crumble holds together and goes crisp
  • (optional) Sprinkle rolled oats (2 tbsp) and Soft Brown sugar (2 tbsp) over the top of your crumble mix for added flavour and crisp
  • Pop your crumble in a preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, until the top is golden and the apples are soft if you insert a small, sharp knife
